I can’t believe it’s already been a year since I started blogging. That went by way too fast!
I remember well all the anxiety I felt about making this blog public. It went live during Tropical Storm Sandy – it wasn’t a ‘super storm’ yet when it hit here – but it still made for interesting and stressful timing. As I look back now I realize there was nothing to be worried about at all!
Christi over at Novel Conclusions just celebrated her one year anniversary on Oct 23rd. She acknowledged it with 5 brilliant things she learned. Since I don’t want to copy her great idea you should hop on over to her blog to take a peek at what she wrote … go ahead, I’ll wait …
Okay, now that you’re back, let me say I agree with Christi especially on these three points:
- the blogging community is great(!) and super supportive,
- there is a wealth of knowledge out there in the blogging world, (which I’ve been voraciously absorbing to help improve my writing and editing!) and
- a blogger should post regularly and not wait too long between blog posts so blog followers know when to expect your posts
Blogging over this past year has been a lot of fun, but there is definitely room for improvement especially on that last bullet! I know I’ve been inconsistent. Sometimes I’ll shoot out a post within a week of the last, sometimes I can go two or three weeks without a word. Part of it is because I’m waiting for a topic to grab me and I don’t want to post something unless it moves me. But I can improve in posting regularly, so I’m going to try! I know, you can hardly wait …
So thank you so much for your support over this past year, for the likes and comments! I hope you stay tuned and enjoy Year 2 with me.
Oh, and while your here have a piece of cake. It’s delicious!

Congrats on the blog-iversary!
When I first started blogging, everything I read told me I should post daily or several times a week. I quickly abandoned that idea. Even twice weekly got to be too much so I went to once weekly. And honestly, I don’t think others have time to read much more than that. So I’ve come to the conclusion that unless one is scouting for huge stats, blogging just 2-4 times a month is reasonable. Much more than that and it becomes difficult to accomplish much else.

Good advice Carrie, I definitely wouldn’t be able to keep up with more than a post a week and even that will probably be too often. I wouldn’t want to bore everyone! 🙂 Hope u enjoy the cake! 😉

Congratulations on the blogiversary! Mine will be two this week, and I hope readers will enjoy both posts I’m doing to celebrate. Then, it’s back to one a week (with the occasional specials on Saturday). I have a hard time keeping up with bloggers who post more than once a week. And really, I’m more likely to comment on the blogs where there are fewer posts. It’s just too hard to keep up with more frequent posters. They’re more likely to get only likes.
That cake looks delicious—thank heaven the calories are virtual. 🙂 Here’s a toast to your next year. May you have as much fun as the first!

I agree JM, I have a hard time keeping up with frequent posters. I try but it’s not always possible. That’s good feedback as I plan out my schedule.
Congrats to you on 2 years – I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve got planned 🙂
Virtual calories are great but unfortunately they’re just not as tasty 😉
Thanks!!!

Congrats on your blogiversary! It is a really big deal! I just had mine a couple of months ago and as someone who has tried to blog before in the past, to be able to do it consistently for a year, no matter how many times you post is a big accomplishment – so congrats again!

You’re right, it is an accomplishment especially because I’m so good at starting these kind of things but not always so good at seeing them through, so I had to mention it. I was very reluctant to begin blogging thinking ‘what would I say?’ ‘who would want to read what I say?’ etc, but it has been AWESOME!! Thanks so much for stopping by! And Congrats to you too. 🙂

Congrats on your one year blogiversary. 🙂
I do think posting regularly is important. I’ve played around with frequency and find twice a week with 500 words of less works best for me. When I first started, I would post 4-5 days a week–exhausting. 🙂

Thanks Kourtney! Wow posting 4-5 times a week would be exhausting and I doubt anyone would be able to keep up with reading that many posts for one person. They’d have to be VERY interesting 🙂

Especially since I was working full time too. I was reading just agent and editor blogs so my blog interaction was pretty nil. But writing when you have no audience is an act of discipline. 😉

October seems like a popular month for blogiversaries! Happy one to you. I agree that it can be difficult to maintain posting consistency. I’m doing worse since I came back from my summer hiatus. Unfortunately, it isn’t because of lack of inspiration but time — but autumn is a crazy time of year for me anyway what with kids’ after-school activities and the Halloween party (which takes up a lot of time because I do all the prep and planning myself). Now that I’m into November, I’m hoping things will settle enough so I can stay on top of blogging.
I love your blog and I always get excited to see you post. No worries about doing it on a regular basis for me. I’ll read no matter what.

Kate, thanks so much. Your words definitely put a big smile on my face!! I hope the Halloween party went well – I can’t wait to hear what you ended up doing 🙂 I’m sure the kids had a blast!
I can’t believe we are already into November! Hopefully it will go smoothly and we can both get into a more regular schedule 🙂

Happy Anniversary! Your blog is always fun to visit no matter how often you post. I know what you mean though – it’s hard to keep coming up with something and sometimes I’d rather visit than post. I used to try for twice a week but now I do once a week and sometimes skip a week. I think it helps to have a set posting day because then you’re sort of forced into doing it and when you know it’s coming up you’re more likely to draft something ahead of time. I’m glad we were able to meet in this weird way and I’ll look forward to more posts!

Thanks Sheila! And thanks for the tip of trying to stick to a specific day. I’m going to try that and see how it works, though I won’t get too worked up if I miss it or skip a week. This is supposed to be fun … and it is … so no need to make it stressful 🙂
It has been fun meeting so many different people. It’s definitely the part I never expected and have enjoyed the most!!

Hi Christi,
Thanks and I’m glad you stopped by … better late than never, right?
I’ve been a bit out of the blogging world with the holidays and the end of the year rush at the day job – but now that they have passed us by I’ve got to get back on track. Thanks again and Happy New Year!!
